Architectural design competition

Organized: By TAOLIS 

Location: Altaona Sports & Wellness Resort, Murcia, Spain

01 Objective:

The purpose of this competition is to select an architectural proposal for the Alhambra Tourist Apartments, a modern reinterpretation of the existing Alhambra Residential Apartments with a distinctive Arabic influence, while ensuring sustainable, functional, and aesthetically harmonious designs.

The winning architect will become part of the Taolis architecture design team.

02 Eligibility

Participants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a qualified architect in Spain.
  • Be a resident of Murcia or willing to relocate upon selection (to manage the project as part of the Taolis team).
  • Be fluent in Spanish (basic English is preferred).
  • Have experience in sustainable and high-end residential or hospitality projects.
  • Submit a portfolio showcasing relevant previous work.
  • Accept the competition’s terms and conditions before participation.

03 Competition Stages:

03.01 Registration & Submission

·         The competition is hosted on the Taolis online platform.

·         Submission deadline: March 31, 2025.

·         Participants must register and submit all required documents in PDF format.

03.02 Submission Requirements

Each proposal must include:

  • Preliminary project (Anteproyecto): Conceptual design with key aspects.
  • Master plan: Layout demonstrating connectivity with the surrounding area.
  • Architectural drawings: Floor plans, sections, elevations.
  • Building and apartment layouts.
  • Sustainability strategies (LED lighting, solar panels, water recycling, etc.).
  • Integration with nature: Considerations for blending with the environment.
  • Material selection: Recommendations based on durability and aesthetics.
  • Energy efficiency strategies.
  • Additional graphic documentation (visual aids to enhance project understanding).

04 Selection Criteria

The proposals will be evaluated based on the following:

  • 1.    Architectural quality and innovation.
  • 2.    Sustainability and energy efficiency.
  • 3.    Integration with the site and surroundings.
  • 4.    Functionality and feasibility.
  • 5.    Compliance with competition requirements and local regulations.

The jury will be composed of Taolis representatives.

05 Winner Announcement & Award

The winning architect will be announced via the Taolis platform.

The winner will:

  • Join the Taolis design team.
  • Collaborate in the project execution at Altaona Sports & Wellness Resort.
  • Gain international recognition for their contribution.
  • Taolis reserves the right to declare the competition void if no satisfactory proposals are received.

06 Intellectual Property Rights

Participants retain the copyright of their designs.
The winning proposal will become the property of Taolis, granting them exclusive usage rights for project execution.
Taolis reserves the right to modify and adapt the winning design as needed.
Non-winning participants may not claim compensation for their work.

07 Legal Framework & Liability

·         The competition follows Spanish contract and intellectual property laws, including:

·        Ley de Contratos del Sector Público (Law 9/2017) for public procurement.

·        Ley 21/2014, de 4 de noviembre, por la que se modifica el texto refundido de la Ley de Propiedad Intelectual, aprobado por Real Decreto Legislativo 1/1996, de 12 de abril, y la Ley 1/2000, de 7 de enero, de Enjuiciamiento Civil.

·        Building regulations of the Region of Murcia.

·        Participants agree to comply with all legal and regulatory requirements.

·        Taolis is not liable for any disputes arising from unauthorized use of copyrighted materials by participants.

08 Disqualification & Exclusion

A participant may be disqualified if:

  • Their submission is incomplete or fails to meet competition requirements.
  • They engage in plagiarism or submit fraudulent work.
  • They fail to comply with Spanish legal regulations.
  • They attempt to influence the jury’s decision in any way.

09 Acceptance of Terms

By submitting a proposal, participants:

Acknowledge and accept these Terms and Conditions.
Waive any legal claims against Taolis regarding the competition process.
